The Regional Office for South America of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the "excessive use of force by the Military Police to suppress protests and demonstrations in Brazil," criticized Sunday's action, 21, in Cracolândia, São Paulo, and The violence of demonstrators. Criticism was also directed at demonstrators. The bodies "condemn every act of violence and urge demonstrators to exercise their rights to peaceful demonstration peacefully, while reaffirming that the actions of security forces must always respect international human rights standards."
Cracowland
Another UN alert refers to the evacuation of Cracolândia, promoted by the São Paulo City Hall. "Several people were injured in the region known as Cracolândia, in the city of São Paulo, during a security operation to remove illicit drug users from the streets," he said.
"According to the information received, the operation would have included the demolition of a building that was occupied, the eviction of residents and merchants of Cracolândia and the use of gas bombs and rubber bullets to repress them," the entities said.
The UN evaluates that the situation generated a "deep concern for the excessive use of force by the Brazilian State security forces".
Another example used by the entity was the death of ten people during a violent eviction carried out by the Civil and Military Police on a farm in the State of Pará. The UN wants an investigation into the case.
Weapons
Both the UN and the Inter-American Commission are still concerned about incidents of firearms at different times during demonstrations in Brazil. The entities asked the State to adopt mechanisms to ensure strict adherence to the general principles of legality, proportionality and absolute necessity in the use of force in contexts of social protest.
"Firearms must be excluded from devices used to control social protest.
